Background
A 5,000 sqm convention hall hosting 3,000+ delegate events was overdue for a sound system upgrade. The existing system struggled with intelligibility at the rear of the hall under high reverberation conditions.
Solution
Soundwork designed a three-tier coverage system:
- Main hangs — Alpha A1 × 10 per side (primary field coverage)
- Rear hangs — Alpha A2 × 6 per side with 120 ms delay compensation
- Under-balcony fill — Alpha P1 × 18, distributed (obstructed seating areas)
Total SPL at the back row: 110 dB. Speech intelligibility (STI): 0.78 — Excellent band per IEC 60268-16.
Outcome
The venue now meets ICCA convention centre audio standards, unlocking the facility for large-format international congress business. Full system commissioning completed within a five-day window during a scheduled closure.
